i have six iowa blue hens and one rooster that free range around our farm during the day. it appears our roosters comb and waddle has gotten frostbit during this last cold spell. tips of the comb and waddle are turning dark brown and black.
anyone else have issues with this? what will happen? he is a very handsome rooster.
Good morning! Sorry for the delay in replying, I finally activated my account. I have heard adding sugar to the drinking water will help keep combs and wattles from freezing in the winter. I haven't tried that until this year, but so far so good. I also rub the combs with bag balm or Vaseline, but that's a lot of work if you have a lot of roosters! I would try that to help with damage already done.
