I encourage everyone to pick up the latest issue of Backyard Poultry. In it is a lovely feature on the Iowa Blue and a nice blurb about its petition for APA recognition. Check it out - issue is out now!

Thanks! I've made arrangements to buy hatching eggs as soon as they're available and am anxiously awaiting next spring, when I expect there will be quite a few more breeders as a result of the article. I plan to be one of them and hope to get some of the local 4H-ers interested once approved by APA. What's the latest on that?
We've got a delay on APA acceptance. There are requirements on breeder affidavits (5 years or more of breeding true), showing requirements (2 years or more of the variety with at least 2 each of cock birds, hens, cockerels, and pullets). Since the silver penciled variety is just getting on its feet, it's going to be a few years.
However, we can start getting them to the open shows and build interest, numbers, and achieve the numbers shown we need to petition.
