Hi Candy, I started collecting eggs today to hatch, the darker hen being older than my young cockerel has made getting fertile eggs from her impossible at this time because of her still being a little more dominant than him. The lighter hen is a little less dominant & has been breeding active with the cockerel for the last 3 weeks so today I decided to go ahead & start collecting eggs from her. By the time I get a couple hatches off the lighter hen the darker hen should be laying fertile eggs that I'll start hatching at that time. :)
A couple pictures of my darker Iowa Blue hen, I have put a red leg band on her & will keep track of her chicks as they hatch by placing a red leg band on them also. :)
A couple pictures of my lighter Iowa Blue hen, I have put a green leg band on her & will keep track of her chicks as they hatch by placing a green leg band on them also. :)
This pullet has nice markings, but unfortunately the comb is overdeveloped for an Iowa. Hopefully the chicks will not have that "leghorn" type comb though :) . It takes some time to get the breed around for all of us!
Small breeder of Iowa Blues, currently have Smokey, Birchen, Silvers, and seeing Charcoal chicks as well.
